2015.09.19: spiritual gardening

Jesus taught, “Knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of God has been granted to you; but to the rest, they are made known through parables so that ‘they may look but not see, and hear but not understand.'” –  Lk 8:10

prepare well the ground
place it well off the beaten path
away from choking thorns
and things that block the light
weed out entanglements
remove all hardness of heart
baptize with life giving water
and nurture daily with love
then prepare to be
surprised by providence

2015.09.18: immortality

For we brought nothing into the world, just as we shall not be able to take anything out of it. – 1 Tim 6:7

nothing can take away
the faith that carried me
through the valleys
the purity of joy
on the mountain tops
nor the hope
that when the great darkness comes
the brightest light will follow
for if all else fails
the love the i’ve experienced
the love that i’ve poured out
is enough
for eternity

to love
and to have been loved
unabashedly
unconditionally
without reservations
that is immortality
a taste of the divine

2015.09.17: the middle ground

Reflecting on the parable of the sinful woman; Lk 7:36-50

between the rapture of being
in the loving presence of God
and the agony of being deprived
of the senses of his presence
lies the middle ground
where choices are made
every moment of every day

the fall from grace
may be the consequence
of one bad choice
or a series of not-so-good choices
or simply not choosing at all

until one awakes
to the dull aching void
of the absence of God
the choice to turn back
cannot be made
and one lives unaware
whether given over to vices
or following passed down traditions
on the path of virtues
while being blissfully ignoring
the presence of God
even when he walks
in the flesh

2015.09.16: fallen nature

But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth. – 1 Tim 3:15

even in God’s house
the blind attempts to lead
the deaf and mute

to see God’s mountain
but not be able to cross
into the Promise Land

hope endures
as long as we breath
wisdom lives

Jesus said, “But wisdom is vindicated by all her children.” – Lk 7:35
