words heard but not welcomed
in the soul will not take root
and will die like inert seeds
buried never again to be
seen in the light of day
so also will perish the souls
that do not welcome the Word
taken flesh and blood
their corpses will be buried
never again to see the Light

today is the day
now is the time

awake and open your heart
the object of your longing
has always been with you

mortality is realizing
that if i start counting backwards
one for each day that i’ve lived
i wouldn’t likely make it back to one
wisdom is knowing
that the only day that counts
is the one i have today
and being grateful for it
If I say, “Surely darkness shall hide me,
and night shall be my light” – Ps 139:11
as an infant
i cover my eyes
with my hands
looking to hide
from my mother
yet she sees me
and loves me
as a grownup
i cover myself
with the dirt of the world
and filth of my own making
until i can no longer
recognize myself
yet you still know
who i am
and you still love me
i can still almost hear
my mother calling us children
to come inside from the dark
or is that you
calling me to come home
to your waiting arms
