2015.04.18: Holy Trinity

When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they began to be afraid. But he said to them, “It is I. Do not be afraid.” They wanted to take him into the boat, but the boat immediately arrived at the shore to which they were heading. – Jn 6:19-21

without the Spirit

we do not recognize Him

yet You still provide

2015.04.17: the will of God

Gamaliel said, “For if this endeavor or this activity is of human origin, it will destroy itself. But if it comes from God, you will not be able to destroy them; you may even find yourselves fighting against God.” – Acts 5:38-39

even the mightiest of rulers
seek the counsel of God
before their greatest labors
lest they endeavor in vain

yet the mountains move
in the face of faith
the size of a mustard seed
seek to do the the will of God

2015.04.16: words of God

For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God. He does not ration his gift of the Spirit. – Jn 3:34

the words of God are seeds
first germinated by belief
then watered and nurtured
by the gift of the Spirit
in time to bear fruit
each according to design

teach me to love more today
than I did yesterday
so my words don’t ring hollow
like noisy clanging gongs

2015.04.15: unchanged believer

Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. – Jn 3:18

First-among-angels
witnessed and believed his eyes
yet remained unchanged

condemned is his lot
if believing were enough
peace would fill the world

2015.04.14: motive

“And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” Jn 3:14-15

whether a belief is actuated

feverishly out of fear from the mind

perfunctorily as a duty on the lips

or laboriously from the loving heart

each will be rewarded accordingly
