happy is the one
who tells time by the seasons
the world has no hold

2019.05.04: simple joys
simple things
are what gives me joy
the sun peeking
through the kitchen window
as i washed the dishes
the gurgling of water
as the coffee maker
concocts its magic
the aroma
wafting from the kitchen
heralding the arrival
of fresh baked muffins
the winning smile
from an infant
safely tucked
in its mother’s embrace
the last gleam of sunlight
on a placid lake
after a long hard day
the taste of gratefulness
lingering
over the last sip
of a well-worn cup
these are the things
that fills me
with peace
these are the things
that reminds me
that i am beloved
made in the image and likeness
of a loving God
2016.05.18: distilled
what no one sees
through scripted biases
&
everyone see
without filters
truth
2015.02.08: emptying the cup
peeking over my shoulder
the sun envies the warmth
radiating from the room
heart to heart talks
ripples of laughter
lapping at my soul
would that all cups
be as easy to drink
to the last drop
