2015.08.10: the reluctant seed

Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. – 2 Cor 9:6

i am sorry, Lord
i have sowed sparingly
fearful of failing among
the proliferating weeds
i refrained from sowing
all that you have given

forgive me, Lord
i understand now
this is the last season
there will not be another
i have emptied the barn
all has been gathered
and sown …

“Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.” = Jn 12:24

all that is left now
the first and last seed
come holy breath
you’ve brought me here
so many years ago
come take me now
to my resting place

2015.08.09: we are what we eat

I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world. – Jn 6:51

we are what we let our eyes see
we are what we let our ears hear
we are what we let our hands touch
we are what we let our noses smell
we are what we let our tongues taste
we are what we let our minds perceive
we are what we let our hearts feel

when we eat of this bread
and we believe these words
we become what we eat
we are what we eat

2015.08.08: the way of words

Take to heart these words which I enjoin on you today. Drill them into your children. Speak of them at home and abroad, whether you are busy or at rest. Bind them at your wrist as a sign and let them be as a pendant on your forehead. – Dt 6:6-8

it’s easy to hear the words
it’s easy to speak the words
it’s easy to write the words
and wear it on our wrists
and around our necks

it’s not so easy
to open our hearts
and experience the words
seeping into our very being

only when we are the words
will the people believe
