2015.09.11: freeing the inner blindness

“Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own?” – Lk 6:41

the object of my blindness
was my sinfulness after all.
though it wasn’t a punishment
meted out by a tyrant God
but the result of my own
choices. it was the wooden
beam that prevented me
from seeing anything but
my brother’s splinter. thank
you, Lord for forgiving my
sins. it was your love that
has cured my blindness.

my God, my God what have
i done! it should be me upon
that cross – not you. can’t
you see, that’s my wooden beam
and my brother’s splinter and
his brother’s, and the whole
world’s.

He died so that we can see.
He died so that we can be
free. we are free to choose
to go back to our lives and
remember this moment only as
an interesting marker in our
history where the keeping of
time changed or we can choose
to follow the Teacher and cure
the blind, feed the hungry,
forgive the sinners, and unchain
the unloved.

2015.08.07: the way of the cross

Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? – Mt 16:24-26

the cross marks the spot
where heaven meets earth
before you lies the choice
power or the Truth
social status or the cross
the world or your life
the temptations of the desert

the cross represents
heaven and earth
divine and human
choice and chosen
freedom and obedience
come, lay down your life
pick up the cross and follow
Emmanuel, God with us
the way to the Father
the way of the cross
the way, the truth, and the life

2015.08.06: revealed

Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John, and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, – Mk 9:2

everything on earth
a reflection of heaven
made more apparent
in the waters of baptism

here on the mountain
heaven intersects earth
divine incarnate and
human transfigured

from this origin
all things begin anew
the journey home begins
the cross remains a choice

2015.03.13: love through the cross

Jesus replied, “The first is this: Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.” – Mk 12:29-31

the kingdom of God
comes through the cross

love pouring down abundantly
must freely flow back up

at the intersection lies the heart
that bridges heaven and earth

with arms out stretched
horizontally diverting the flow
