rabbit in winter
seeking unlikely cover
last ice storm’s debris
rabbit in winter
seeking unlikely cover
last ice storm’s debris
in the drizzling rain
straining to clear crossing cars
pair of local geese
full moon rising
a cawing crow flies away
the wolves howl from within
who knew grasses
had colors and textures
as varied as
autumn leaves
crunchy under bare feet
and rustling in the breeze
the last of the flowers
perfume the cooler air
better now than never
let me taste the fragrance
before the winter whitewashing
time to sleep and dream
cherry blossoms
again in my hand
little cove beaming
with the light of her beloved
sunrise around bend
only twice each year
on the way north and then south
enter her embrace
gliding waterfowls
stopping during migration
to share in the joy
