2015.09.12: into the storm

“I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, listens to my words, and acts on them. That one is like a person building a house, who dug deeply and laid the foundation on rock; when the flood came, the river burst against that house but could not shake it because it had been well built.” Lk 6:47-48

This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Of these I am the foremost. – 1 Tim 1:15

He raises up the lowly from the dust;
from the dunghill he lifts up the poor. Ps 113:7

here i am, Lord. safe and sound in my house built upon the foundation that is you. i have dove beneath the waves of popular culture and dug even deeper through the sifting sands of doctrine that hides the bedrock that is you. here i am at last in the temple that you built in the beginning of time for those that listened and heeded your commands. i am grateful that you came for a sinner like me. you lifted me up from the vise of powerlessness. you carried me, bathed me, nursed me, fed me, encouraged me, and gave me your life. without you, i wouldn’t have arrived here. when i tried to climb the mountain of guilt and indebtedness you leveled it so that we are standing eye to eye. with a simple embrace of unconditional love, you set me free. for the first time in my life, i know what i want to do. why are you smiling, my Lord? will you accompany me, Lord? if you lead, i will follow you into the storm…

2015.03.07: again

You will cast into the depths of the sea all our sins; – Mic 7:19

Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner
do not look upon the strength of my resolve
nor the veracity of my promise
for you know that i am weak
that i will stumble
again, again, and again
yet if you are willing
i will crawl to my feet
again, again, and again
with your help
i will carry this cross
unto Calvary
where my baptism
will be consummated
and heaven and earth are joined
again.

2015.02.15: a love like no other

A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said, “If you wish, you can make me clean.” – Mk 1:40-42

ignorance taught me
that to avoid the fires of hell
i must:
obey the commandments
follow the precepts and
believe the doctrines

pride told me
that i can do it
on my own

just like the leper
who was condemned
to hell on earth
for sins he may or may not
have committed
i lost all hope

from the depths of despair
with much wailing
and gnashing of teeth
i cried out for help

even though i had
no right to hope
you came to me
any way

you touched me
and made me clean
you flooded me
with forgiveness
and overflowing love

no longer am i condemned
to isolation
but in deserted places
i will you stay with you

for who will believe
the words of a sinner
but castaways and other sinners
who are ready to be saved
by a love like no other

2015.01.25: way of the sinner

Good and upright is the LORD,
therefore he shows sinners the way, – Ps 25:8

those using the world as not using it fully. For the world in its present form is passing away. 1 Cor:31

“This is the time of fulfillment.
The kingdom of God is at hand.
Repent, and believe in the gospel.” – Mk 1:15

the Laws were but
stepping stones
like John the Baptist
they pointed the way
to you, Jesus
you are the fulfillment
you are the Kingdom of God
yes, Lord, i believe
i am a sinner
but i welcome you
into my heart
remain with me
as I deny myself,
take up the cross,
and follow you
i will remain with you
as i stumble and fall
only to you will I look
for my help and salvation
never will i turn from you
never will i walk alone
You are the Way,
the Truth
and the Life
