I can’t help laughing. This could have been the conversation between the deer hunter in a tree stand and the guide who’d gotten out of his truck to walk to the stand when the guide discovered he was being tracked by a mountain lion. I just heard the story on our AM radio hunting and fishing show this morning — it happened down in the south Texas brush country. The mountain lion followed the guide all the way to the stand, keeping a distance of only about five yards. It’s not the season for cubs, so it’s possible the cat had a fresh kill hidden away in the grass.
It’s great proof of how context can affect the way we read things!
That would be spooky to suddenly realize that you’ve been stalked. I’ve read accounts of mountain lions attacking joggers or hikers. To your point on text and perspective is everything.
