Oh, my. Friends and I have talked about the fact that we’ve never seen a cardinal feather lying around, and we certainly haven’t seen anything like this. Did you give it a proper burial? I don’t mean that to be funny — I once buried a pigeon who died on my balcony. I took it to a local nature center and found an out-of-the way shrubby area. It was better than a trash can.
This is sad, but so common in the spring. Window strike is the main problem as nest building, mating and looking after chicks becomes frenetic. Then, the subsequent loss of young birds that struggle. It is a tough world. Fitting haiku.

Sadly we were in the middle of a walk and had no gloves or bags. Alas he remained au naturale.

Well, that’s why we’ve been provided scavengers like vultures. They offer a valuable service.

When we came by the next day, there was no trace – not even a feather. May be someone buried him.

We’ve seen other deaths like this along this sidewalk next to the road. Could be a collision with a car.

In the UK car strikes and cats account for an estimated 6 million bird deaths each, every year.
